Hello,

I want to welcome everyone back to fall sports.  At this moment we are moving forward with plans to start fall sports at Talawanda Middle School and Talawanda High School.  I want everyone to realize our plans could change within the week, or even within the hour of  sending this information to you. I also want you to realize that orders/recommendations from the state, and or the health department change very often.  So, you may hear one thing when we start practices and then that changes the next week to something different.  Please be patient with us as we do the best we can to keep your child and our staff as safe as possible.  Below we have many things for you to look over before your son/daughter can participate in a practice or tryout.

*ALL Athletes need a current medical physical on file with the athletic department at TMS or THS.  Please email your athletic director or bring it in to your coach if you have one completed.

*Final Forms needs updated by parents and athletes.  This is done each year.  We will also add in our online parent meeting in the next week for you to watch.

*Please make sure athletes bring their own water bottle to practice.  They will have the opportunity to fill their bottle if they finish what they brought.

*Athletes are encouraged to use the restroom before they arrive for practice.  If an emergency comes up they will be able to use the restroom during practice.

*Athletes must wear a face covering when they arrive for practice, when they are listening to instructions from a coach, and when they are leaving practice. While they are participating in a drill they won’t be required to wear one for health reasons.

*We will have our fall sports parent/player meeting online this fall.  I am working on getting this ready for families and athletes to watch.  We want to make sure we have the most accurate and up to date information to share with you.

*We will go over sports passes and tickets for contests when we have more information about attendance at those games.

*Sports pictures are scheduled for August 14th.  We will send a schedule out as we get closer to this date.  Senior banner pictures will also be available to purchase on this date.

*Middle School pictures will be September 3rd.

*Please consider being a member of the Talawanda Athletic Boosters.  They work so hard for every team and athlete at Talawanda.  Here is the link to their annual Golf Scramble Fundraiser on August 23rd if you want to enter a team or sponsor a Golf Hole. Golf Scramble

**I want to make sure you are aware of a few changes that have happened to fall sports.  All contact scrimmages have been suspended by the OHSAA for this fall.  Football, Soccer, Field Hockey, and Cross Country are in this category.  Update 7/28

**Also, we are hearing some leagues will only be playing their own league teams.  We will update you on this as we hear from non-conference teams that we play.

**Schedules can be found on the athletic website. Varsity and Middle School schedules are posted.  JV and freshmen will be updated this weekend.  Schedules

**Below are the screening questions that your child will be asked when they arrive to practice.  Please note we have added a new question which includes the Governor’s Travel Advisory. His update came out on 7/29 and our district will be following this to keep everyone as safe as possible.

Screening Questions when athletes arrive:

  1. Do you have any of these symptoms that are not caused by another condition?  Fever or chills, Cough, Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, Fatigue, Muscle or body aches, Headache, Recent loss of taste or smell, Sore throat, Congestion, Nausea or vomiting, or Diarrhea.
  2. Have you recently traveled out of state to Mississippi, Arizona, Alabama, Idaho, Florida, Kansas, or South Carolina?

If the athlete answers yes to question #1 the athlete needs to go home and check with your medical provider for further instructions.

If the athlete answers yes to question #2 they need to self-quarantine for 14 days.

Travel Advisory: Based on updated positivity rates, Ohioans are encouraged to avoid travel to the following states. Anyone entering Ohio after travel to these states is asked to self-quarantine for 14 days.

Positivity rate is an indicator of how much COVID-19 there is in a community, and ODH is recommending against travel to those states with high positivity. If someone must travel, ODH is recommending 14 days of self-quarantine after leaving those locations. This advisory is intended for both leisure and business travel, and should be heeded by both Ohioans and out-of-state travelers.

The list of states will be updated every week on Wednesday. Based on a 7-day rolling average of positivity rates of July 29, the affected states are: Mississippi, Arizona, Florida, Alabama, Idaho, Kansas, and South Carolina. Please see the link below for more information.

I want to thank all of you for your patience and encouragement over the summer months.  This has been something that none of us have ever been through or imagined that we would have to be part of.  Things change daily and I appreciate your flexibility with these changes.  I want to thank our coaches who have worked so hard while working with your son/daughter to give them a sense of normalcy in a time when they need it most.  When you see your coaches please thank them for doing their best and showing up for your child every workout.  Lastly, I want to thank our athletes who came out in record numbers this summer.  They have worked so hard and I appreciate each and every one of our athletes! This will be a Roller Coaster fall season and I look forward to seeing all of you at a game or practice.  Take care!

Go BRAVE!
